Aikido at New Haven Aikikai
Aikido is a modern Japanese martial art that is practiced worldwide by people of all ages. Its roots are in Japanese jujitsu, kendo and sword arts, with influence from Zen. The "do" in its name means Aikido is a martial path, practiced with a goal of self-transformation.
New Haven Aikikai - Fire Horse Dojo is a full-time Aikido dojo affiliated with Birankai North America and Hombu Dojo in Tokyo, Japan. Our lineage is in the Aikikai style although we welcome Aikidoka of all backgrounds. We also offer classes in Iaido, the art of drawing and cutting with the Japanese sword; Zazen seated Zen meditation, and Shodo, the art of Japanese calligraphy.
Begin your Aikido practice today! To try an Aikido class for the first time, please arrive 10 minutes early and wear a t-shirt and sweatpants or yoga pants. Beginners are welcome in all classes but you might want to start with a Basics class -- see the "Schedule" page for details.
LOCATION: Erector Square Building 5, 315 Peck St., New Haven. (Next to Lori's Cafe.)
